HOW TO GET AN AMAZING DEAL ON SCOOTERS AND WHAT YOU NEED TO LOOK FOR BEFORE PAYING!

If you own a scooter and cannot get it to start, you know how absolutely frustrating this can be. If you find you are in this position keep with us for caring tips and insight and what to look for before purchasing so you avoid these problems.  If you’d like to find the best deals on the internet for scooters…we’ve got your hook up.

Initially you have to calm and focus on the quandary you are having so you can narrow it down to something precise. This will help you know just what answer to pursue.

In order for a scooter to operate efficiently and typically, there are genuinely only 3 leading effects desired. These are ignition at the approved time, the approved air and fuel mixture with correct exhaust flow and finally sufficient engine compression. If you can master and learn to maintain these, you will be in good shape.

Compression Check:

If you have just purchased a scooter one of the first effects you must have is tooperate a broad inspection before you commence running it. You should commence with a compression test as this is relatively simple to operate. start by checking the quantity and quality of the engine oil. If the oil is extremely soiled you might want to change it. Only do this if absolutely wanted because you might find out later that the engine is hurt and then you will have wasted new oil in the change. If the oil level is low, then minimally add an appropriate quantity.

Once you have inspected the oil, hook up a good battery orobtain a new one if wanted. Now you need to inspect out the spark plug and crank the scooter for approximately 5 seconds. This will help circulate the oil. Let the scooter sit for about 15 seconds and then crank the scooter again for about 5 seconds. Be cautious not to crank for more than 5 seconds without pausing as this will make the starter to roast and will grind the starter out. The majority of scooters expect a minimum of 100 psi in compression to activate properly. To properly test this number the engine wants to be warm and the scooter wants to be operating. join a compression gauge and open the throttle completely.

Crank the scooter pending the needle on the gauge stops stirring. This should take around 5 seconds. Make a note of the gauge reading. In general 100-125 psi is good, 125-150 psi is very good, and 150 or more psi is admirable. If your analysis is below this reach you may have something wrong with your valves or piston rings. You might try adding one teaspoon of oil to the engine through the spark plug hole. After this, try the compression test again. If you get a increased reading this time, this is an indication that you might have bad rings. If you get about the same reading as the first test, you maybe have bad valves.

Spark Check:

Now its time to test for spark. There are a few tests to accomplish this. The simplest way is to take out the spark plug and place it back in the spark plug cap. Next, ground it to the engine. You can do this by laying it on a non-painted part of the engine. Make sure you have metal-to-metal contact. Now in a partially dark vicinity, try to turn over the scooter. You should note a spark at the tip of the spark plug. If the spark is blue, it means it is a nice sound spark. A white spark is less good and a blond one is weaker still. Most scooters have a relatively weak starter system compared to automobiles so even a blond spark should be ok. Now that you know you have spark, you have to make sure it is happening at the right time. Almost every scooter manufactured after 1980 has an electronic ignition If this is the case, this is good news.

These systems cannot be set and seldom go out of time. If your scooter has points, this is another situation. On these, in order to get the timing correct you will have to follow the timing procedure mentioned in the guidebook. routinely, just before the piston reaches the top of its stroke, the spark occurs. There is small waiting phase between the spark plug fire and the fuel-air mixture ignition. This is why the spark occurs somewhat early. Most ignition systems have a spark advance built in so that as the engine speeds up the spark time is adjusted accordingly. This helps make sure the mixture ignites at just the right time.

Starting Fluid:

Next you need to test the starting fluid. arrogant there is enough compression, spurt in a little starting fluid and see if the scooter will fire up. If so, wonderful! This lets you know you have both enough compression and the right spark. Let your scooter run for just a short time on starting fluid. If this succeeds it means you have a good risk of making your scooter to work properly. Be sensitive however. You do not want to run your engine very long on starter fluid as it is hard on the engine.

Fuel/Air mixture:

The ending thing to check is the mixture of fuel and air. It’s important to have the right balance of each. Too much or too little of whichever will be a hindrance. If the scooter has not been used for more than 3 months, sludgy deposits left over from evaporated gas may be present. Try to determine how long it has been since the scooter was last operated. If it has been more than 3 months, the fuel system and the carburetor should be cleaned out. Detach the fuel line and clear out all the old gas.

Now add new fuel and make sure it flows efficiently through the petcock on the underside of the fuel tank. If vacuum controls the petcock, then you may have to draw a vacuum on the line to get the fuel toflow to start. In these instances the slighter line on the petcock is the vacuum line. Is the flow of gas good and steady? If so, great! If not, you will need to remove and clean the petcock. The gas flow should terminate when you remove the vacuum.

Next you should detach the carburetor and thoroughly clean it. There are a lot of extremely small air and fuel passageways in the carburetor that have to be clean in order for your scooter to run properly. With care, dismantle the carburetor. This can be fairly simple on a 50cc scooter or totally complicated on a Riva 180-200.

The Riva only has partial access and 8 single hoses connecting to the carburetor. The carburetor has very small passages which may get stopped. The scooter won’t maneuver properly if the carburetor is not perfectly clean, so be enduring and thorough. I advise employing about a gallon of carburetor dip which you can acquire at your local supply store for about $11 dollars.

Initially take out all rubber and gaskets or they may get blemished. This is important. Make sure these are detached before proceeding. Now saturate the carburetor for about twenty minutes and use compressed air to blow it out. It is crucial for you to get the passageways and jets clean. guarantee the jets are clean particularly the starter jet.

Occasionally carb cleaner won’t unclog these small jets. If this happens, make use of a guitar/piano wire, copper electrical wire or a tiny drill bit pin vise to finish the job. Be sure that the hole in the starter jet is not enlarged or the tuning will be changed. Put everything back together, looking for any cracks in the gaskets or rubber carb boots. If they are old and cracked, it’s a good idea to get them replaced.

If there is an electric choke, make sure that it works. The resistance between the wires should be around 10 ohms or less on the assembly. Take the choke from the carb and the wires should be plugged into a 12V source for about 15 minutes. The choke body should be welcoming to the finger. Now measure again. The length should have amplified by around 1/8th inches.

So…How Fast Are Vespas Anyway and Where did Vespas Originate?

Vespa an italian built scooter manufactured by Piaggio. If you have ever seen any older European movies from the 60’s I guarantee that you have seen when of these creations.

Over the years Vespa’s have evolved from single model scooters to a full line of scooters that will satisfy even the most picky consumer.

Vespa’s have been a hit since the first one rolled off the assembly line. But now they are mostly known for the painted, pressed steel unibody that houses the complete engine compartment. The flatboard to keep your feet and a prominent front fairing (mainly used for wind protection).

In the 1940’s the Vespa was used primarily for troops in World War II. The United States enjoyed these scooters because they were helpful in getting around Nazi defense tactics of destroying roads and bridges in the Dolomites (a section of the Alps) and the Austrian border areas.

With todays gas prices it is no wonder why Vespa scooters are so popular after so many years of service. Suburbanites are looking for something different to entertain their weekends and for commuters who are tired of filling their gas guzzling vehicles.

Over the years though Vespas started to pass away from american society, but fast forward to this day and time. Outfitted with two new models that are environmentally friendly and fuel efficient the Piaggio built Vespa returned to the United States in the year 2000. The ET2 model replaced the usual mineral oil with synthetic oil which meant they emitted less smoke while driving. This model can reach 40 mph and can get up to 60 miles to the gallon.

The company has also released a version of the Vespa that is a hybrid gas/electric for even for fuel economy. They also introduced a scooter with two wheels in front and one in back which grips the road better. This version of the scooter has taken off and is now being copied by motorcycle makers alike.

Why Buy a Gas Motor Scooter?

With the visibility of motor scooters in urban centers, their popularity is no secret. Maybe the convenience and fuel economy of scooters has caught your attention too. But if you’re thinking seriously about putting money down on a scooter, you need to answer the question, "Do I need a gas powered or electric model?" Here is the argument in favor of gas scooters.

With thousands of motorized scooters selling weekly, the surging popularity of today’s models is hardly a secret. But if you are ready to put down money for a scooter, you’ll first need to ask yourself, "Do I look at gas powered or electric models?"

We considered the points in favor of electric motorized scooters in Part 1 of this series. Now let’s glance at the advantages of gas powered scooters. You may have been high on electric scooters after scanning their selling points–but gas powered (and hybrid) scooters actually have plenty to offer. As you read this, you should ask yourself, "How do I see myself using the scooter?" Answering that question will lead you to the right choice. OK, here we go.

Gas powered motor scooters win points because…

They can travel many more miles without refueling. Even the best batteries will need to be recharged every couple hours (or 10-15 miles), while a 1-2 gallon tank on a gas powered model can take you as far as 200 miles.

Gas scooters are more cost effective where speed is concerned. In other words, you can drive faster while paying proportionally less. Gas powered models in the same price tier as electric models typically go 15-25 mph faster. And if you have your heart set on jetting down the freeway, you’ll very likely need a gas powered (or hybrid) scooter.

Gas scooters offer greater versatility. With greater acceleration punch, speed, and power, gas models are the workhorses of the scooter world. They can carry more weight, drive further, and perform better on hills and rough ground.

Gas scooters are typically more durable, because they’re designed to handle high speeds and are frequently capable of off-road use.

Refueling is as quick and easy as filling a 1-2 gallon tank. With an electric scooter, it’s difficult to recharge a battery on the fly (curbside outlets, anyone?), and charging takes four to eight hours.

Gas powered scooters work well in all seasons, but battery power is decreased by extremes cold or heat.

Are you feeling more indecisive than when you started reading? Hopefully not–but if so, take heart. There is good news: both gas and electric motor scooters are produced by highly regarded manufacturers, both represent huge fuel savings over cars and trucks, and both are a great deal better for the environment. In addition, hybrid scooters are being developed that combine the best of both fuels.

Here’s a quick review. If you want to buy a motorized scooter with a very minimal environmental footprint, an electric model scooter may be the right pick. This is all the more true if your use will be mostly urban or residential and short-range. If you want to pack your scooter like luggage and take it on long trips, then buy an electric model.

If you want a scooter that’s capable of highway or off-road travel, start looking at gas powered models. You’ll pay less up front for your speed fix–and you’ll have a tougher, more versatile scooter. Your fuel savings won’t be as high as they would be with an electric model, but getting, at minimum, 50 mpg on gasoline is nothing to roll your eyes at.

If you want to back up and review the selection process at more depth, you may want to check out Choosing a Motorized Scooter. and motorized scooters.

Gas Scooters: Why You Want To Get One

Gas Scooters are starting to show up more and more on our city streets. A favorite of Europe and Asia for many years, there is trend beginning where gas scooters are starting to fly off the shelves in America. When you consider their advantages, it is easy to see why:

1. Scooters get into less accidents.
The percentages and statistics show that scooter drivers get into less accidents than cars and motorcyclists. This is due in part because of the design of scooters. Since they are smaller vehicles, it is easy for them to maneuver and avoid accidents. In addition, most scooters are not made for highway driving where accidents are the highest. Finally, while riding a scooter, a scooter driver is required to have both hands on the wheel and is less likely to be distracted than say a car driving who is talking on their cell phone.

2. Scooters are cheaper to buy.
The cost of a new car or motorcycle is easily 3 to 5 times as much as a scooter. This means not only do you save money on gas mileage benefits, but you also save money at the very start with the purchase.

3. Scooters have cheaper repair bills.
Scooters have a basic straight-forward design which means that scooter repairs are uncomplicated and fairly easy to get corrected. This translates into cheaper repair bills compared to expensive bills you might pay on a sophisticated car.

4. Scooter get better gas mileage.
This fact is the draw for most motorists who make the switch from car to scooter is this great gas mileage savings. This is easy to see why when a scooter gets 60 to 80 mpg and a car gets 15 to 25 mpg.

5. Scooters can have cheaper insurance premiums.
Since scooters get into less accidents, you can often get cheaper insurance premiums. This is more great news for those who are trying to save their hard earned money.

6. Scooters are better for the environment than cars.
Scooters actually emit less emissions into the air. This means you know that you are creating a smaller carbon footprint when you ride your scooter.
high performance gas powered bicycles
With all of these advantages, it is easy to see why gas scooters have become the new ‘it’ item. One additional piece of advice I would give when looking at gas scooters if you are a new scooter owner is to start with the Top Brands. The top brands include: Yamaha, Buddy, Vespa, Honday, and Aprilla. These brands have established quality reputations with past customers and have a sold parts and labor network in the US. Going with other brands can be somewhat dicey as they do not have the same reputation and it can be difficult to get parts for them. Therefore, unless you are a mechanic, I would stick with the top brands. However, regardless of which brand you choose, I think you will find that gas scooters are great for saving some cash and are a fun ride as well.
